Welcome to the Phoenicia Farmers Market!

Phoenicia Farmers Market (PFM) was founded in 2021 in order to bring access to fresh, local food to the Town of Shandaken, New York. Like all farmers markets, we are a vital meeting-place for community to gather, for small businesses to grow, and for our local food system to thrive. Located outdoors in the Hamlet of Phoenicia (May - October) and indoors in the Hamlet of Pine Hill (November - April), we are a year-round market with an emphasis on stimulating social and economic activity in our corner of the Catskill Mountains.

PFM is committed to creating a safe and accessible space for all participants and attendees. Through SNAP benefits, FMNP coupons, Fresh Connect Checks, and our Market Bucks program, our goal is to increase spending power for our neighbors, while putting more dollars in the hands of our local farmers and food producers.

We are a group of volunteers who believe in the power of PFM to bring our community together, to promote a healthy lifestyle, to strengthen our local food system, and to promote sustainable practices that protect our natural environment.

6 tips for planning your visit to the farmers market

These are just a few ways to maximize your trip to our market. If you have questions or need any type of assistance at the market, please find our team at the information booth or email us in advance.

  1. Make a shopping list, but be flexible.

Buying what’s available and in season helps our local growers. Ask vendors for advice on how to cook or use their products. They are knowledgeable and passionate resources!

  2. Bring a tote bag or a cooler.

We have reusable bags available at our info booth in case you forget, and you can even donate one if you have extra at home.

  3. Well-behaved dogs on leash are welcomed.

Be responsible for their behavior or you may be asked to leave.

  4. Drop off at the entrance and park around the corner.

Parking is limited in our hamlets. If you can, leave parking by the entrance available for shoppers with limited mobility.

  5. We’re open rain or shine!

Plan for the weather and dress accordingly. For chilly/rainy days, pack an extra sweater, bring an umbrella, wear your rain boots or a rain coat. On hot, sunny days, bring a water bottle and wear a hat.

  6. The market is better with friends.

Carpool with your neighbor or make plans to meet up at the market. Eat lunch, shop for groceries, grab a coffee, listen to music, and get to know other people who love food.

Compost your food scraps.

Our farmers market serves as a drop-off site for a community composting program led by our market volunteers and local farmers James Amenta and Asheigh Lovelace. Look for the purple sign to find the collection bin by the market entrance. Divert your organic waste from the landfill and it will be turned into rich soil.
