Phoenicia Farmers Market!

Phoenicia Farmers Market (PFM) was founded in 2021 in order to improve access to fresh, local food to the Town of Shandaken, New York. Like all farmers markets, we are a vital meeting-place for community to gather, for small businesses to grow, and for our local food system to thrive. Located outdoors in the Hamlet of Phoenicia (May - October) and indoors in the Hamlet of Pine Hill (November - April), we are a year-round farmers market with an emphasis on stimulating social and economic activity in our corner of Ulster County, in the heart of the Catskill Mountains.

PFM is committed to creating a safe and accessible space for all participants and attendees. We are an antiracist organization, and in 2023 participated in the Anti-Racist Farmers Market Toolkit Community of Practice led by the Farmers Market Coalition. At every juncture we aim to reduce and eliminate harm that stems from white supremacy, patriarchy, and heteronormative capitalism. No form of discrimination is permitted at PFM. We do not tolerate racism, colorism, sexism, homophobia, transphobia, fatphobia, or xenophobia of any kind in our market, nor on our online platforms – no matter from our market committee, volunteers, vendors, collaborators, or shoppers. Instances of this behavior will be strongly examined and swiftly addressed, and may result in the termination or banishment of the perpetrator.

By accepting SNAP benefits, FMNP coupons, Fresh Connect Checks, and by creating our Market Bucks program, our goal is to increase spending power for our neighbors, while putting more dollars in the hands of our local farmers and food producers. We are a group of volunteers who believe in the power of PFM to bring our community together, to promote a healthy lifestyle, to strengthen our local food system, and to educate on sustainable practices that protect our natural environment.

In 2023, our committed team of volunteers founded Shandaken Wildcrafters and Growers Network, Inc., a non-profit organization with the purpose to educate residents/visitors of Shandaken on the benefits of using freshly grown and/or prepared food and other products, and to create opportunities to compare, acquire, prepare, learn about growing methods, taxonomies, proper handling, uses, and dietary information of local freshly grown/wildcrafted or prepared food and other products. Contributions made to our non-profit are tax deductible to the fullest extent of the law, and no goods nor services are exchanged for your donation.

We want to thank our site partner, Phoenicia Supermarket, for hosting us!
